Another fantastic romantic suspense by the amazing Kaylea Cross. If you have never read romantic suspense by Kaylea I highly recommend that you give her a try. You will thank me later. :)With Falling Fast I immediately fell in love with the characters and storyline then held on for the ride. And loved every second of it. One of the MANY things I really like about Kaylea's books is that the women are always strong and kick-ass in their own way. And I can't forget the very sexy Alpha men. There always seems to be several around, much to my enjoyment. :) The plot had unexpected twists and was fast-paced and exciting. We also got the bonus of revisiting the Colebrook family.
Note: I discovered Kaylea Cross's books less than 2 years ago and I have since read every romantic suspense book she has written. Yes, all 30 of them. Most importantly I have LOVED them all and Kaylea is now my all-time favorite author. (I have read 2,000+ books by hundreds of authors.) I can honestly recommend ALL her romantic suspense books, there isn't a bad one in the bunch.

I wanted to like this book more, especially since I’m a big Kaylea Cross Fan. To be honest, I had bigger expectations. Even more so since this is the first installment in a new series. I was hoping for a new “marketing mix”, maybe a renewed touch in the romance part of the plot. Unfortunately nothing like this happened.
For the old mixture, the book didn’t do too badly. I think the best part were the descriptions of Jamie’s emotions towards Charlie. I loved the way Cross managed to relate the depth of these feelings to the reader. The expressions were very soulful and had me sigh more than once. And yes, I did enjoy the HEA. In any case, after closing the book, a bitter-sweet after taste remained why not try something new?
After growing up with a family of overprotective Marines, Charlie is happy to have a civilian desk job. But when her job as a computer forensics expert for the DEA makes her a good person for an undercover assignment, she’s glad for the opportunity to prove she can do more. The assignment is to expose a huge drug cartel through their money launderer. Charlie’s computer skills and looks make her the kind of person this man wants, so she is perfect for this job. The downside to the assignment is her partner, Jamie. He is her brother’s best friend and the one man she wants. But he’s an all or nothing kind of guy and she’s not ready for that commitment. But now they have to work together and she has to trust him completely. She can do that, as far as trusting his skills are concerned, but can she trust herself to not fall for him even more?
Even though this book had a slow start, I really liked the story and characters. I loved that Jamie was so highly skilled. It was easy to believe he could handle any situation. Which he did more than once. I was impressed with Charlie. The fact that she was a strong, capable woman became obvious as the undercover assignment progressed.
This promises to be a good series so don’t miss it. Especially if you like military romantic suspense.
Good moving story. Not what I expected as a romance. Yes you get a happy ending, No cliffhanger and good proofreading. It's just more of a suspense and action story. Charlie and Jamie have military and law enforcement backgrounds working together on an operation. He wants all or nothing between them, while she needs to figure out what she really wants. Ms. Cross did a good job. A read you'll enjoy
I am a big fan of Kaylea Cross's writing. If you like a great plot with adventure and steam, then she is an author worth following. Cross has three great series that I would recommend; Hostage Rescue Team, Bagram Ops, and the Titanium series. These are books I have read and reread.
That is why this book was such a surprise. Right from the start there were issues of believability. It just didn't make sense that Charlie would be sent into that situation.
"As an analyst, this was totally out of her scope and job description." I totally agree.
"Agreeing to this whole thing was insane, but she never had been able to resist a dare ..." Now there's a good reason to go on a dangerous mission.
“I still can’t believe what you did. Wait, yes I can.”
“It just came to me and I went with it." Ahhh, rookie improv while on an op.
Her backup is a DEA agent posing as her neighbor. Imagine going to a meeting with the bad guy and bringing your neighbor?? And bringing your neighbor along on a date with said villain? Couldn't these pros have thought of a better cover story? There were other silly elements such as the real 'Spider' character. Oddly, there is a page devoted to the villain's love for his young niece that has nothing to do with the rest of the story.
Even the romance was a let down. The hero believes Charlie is the woman for him. Instead of hanging around and showing her what a great guy he is, he kisses her and then takes off for seven months. Making it worse is the fact that he had done this before. This is more lame than the 'I am not worthy' trope.
If you haven't read books by Ms. Cross before, start with one of the series mentioned above. If this had been the first book I read by the author, I likely wouldn't have bought any others.
I have a list of authors that I follow and make sure I read all their books at some point. Kaylea is one of them.
Action adventure meets romance or is romance meets action adventure? I can never tell cause that doesn't matter.
It only matters when I get sucked into the story and loose track of everything and everyone around me. Good thing my boys are teens. I can't loose them as they are too loud most of the time anyway. I know to go looking if it's quiet.
I love it when I get pulled in and can't pull away until I've read every!single!page!
I don't write many reviews cause I never know what to say. And always think what I have to say about a book is corny and dumb. In trying to do better at this.
